Schnute diving in the food bowl…

February 28, 2010

Hi folks!

Today (day 13 for the puppies) we gave it a first try: To prepare the litter for independence and to take some responsibility away from Inuk as soon as possible, we served a first very mild meal to the puppies. Of course, all of them are eager to suck whatever is served from our fingers. But all of them are eager to lick some food out of the bowl as well. Garmin, Ubuntu and Sarah managed to stand free while eating. We’ll take it very slow to avoid any early stomach problems, but will continue to train them for eating.

Gourmet food

February 27, 2010

Hejsan !

I didn’t really find the time to write during the last days… We where quite active travelling around in search for a new property. Anyhow… all the puppies are really fit, Inuk is as well! Puppy Sarah has opened her eyes after exactly 9 days on last wednesday. Now the entire litter can see (more or less good) how the world looks under an office desk. If they would be humans I’d fear that the first word would be MICROSOFT.

The nutrition for Inuk (and T-Pooh) becomes quite decadent: The village is supporting Inuk to feed ten puppies! After the 10 Kg of beef last week, 6 Kg CHICKEN BREAST FILET and 8 Kg FISH FILET arrived!!! So, optional to the premium quality dryfood that we use to feed, the day for Inuk and Pooh starts with two fish filets each and after dinner and the evening activity one huge chicken breast filet is served. Meanwhile two main meals with dryfood, fish-oil and beef. It’s rather insane to feed the dogs with this quality of food, but since people here are so open and friendly to support a dog female (the litter is really a sensation here in in our neighbourhood), we go it all the way. And it obviously pays off: All puppies are perfect developed, Inuk is in normal body shape and does a good mother’s job without burning out. Still happy and in good mode she’s always open for a short excursion in the new deep snow but after 10-15 minutes she turns around and runs back to the office to care.

I don’t want to stress these new opened eyes with the flashlight yet, but will start to take pictures of the “individuals” during the next days…

Have a nice weekend

Well dressed !

February 23, 2010

Hi!

The entire litter is healthy & OK. Inuk keeps the routines really well and is far away from the burn-out that some of our “friends” expected her to get. The weather forecast for tonight is up to 40 C below – when I went out for a short 10 Km ski tour with T-Pooh this evening, it felt quite good to know that some of the puppies seem to get as fury as he is.

Shit! Ubuntu and Pirelli gay???

February 21, 2010

The nightmare: As you can see on the picture we’ve got the impression that Ubuntu and Pirelli seem to be gay!!! We’re still full of hope that this was just an accident of a wild saturday night party and will keep an eye on the development of this kind of strange habbits…
Otherwise all the puppies are fit & fat as usual. Especially the white girls seem to get the fluffy fur of T-Pooh ;-) . Inuk is very active as well and would like to follow when we take Pooh out for skijöring. But after running 20m beside us she picks up responsibilities again, turns around and comes back to the “kids” under the office desk.

Nice to live in the countryside…

February 19, 2010

Well… compared to Kiruna we made fantastic experiences down here in Ångermanland. Couple of weeks ago we met a Sami on his snowscooter during skijöring. From Kiruna we are used to prepare for war when meeting Sami while we’re out with dogs. Up there some of the Sami use to attack dogteams with their snowmobiles. Even tourists on dog sleds became injured when crazy freaks on snowscooters attacked dog teams… The man we met gave me a sign to stop. So I told T-Pooh to brake down and stopped next to the guy’s scooter. The following smalltalk somehow changed my world…

“Hi man, what a beautiful dog you have. I’m in search for my reindeers – have you seen any tracks?”

“No, I haven’t – And I’m pretty sure that they’re not around here. Otherwise Pooh would have shown any kind of reaction”

“F*ck! Where are they? …Do you go here frequently with ski&dogs ?

“Yeah – every day…”

“That’s so seldom in this area that people really work with their dogs. Where do you usually go ?”

“Around Gräsberget and back down here. But if you have your flock of reindeers here, we could…”

“No, no, no – there’s so lots of space for all of us here – I’m going to to follow your track and break you a trail. Then it will be easier for you from tomorrow..”

He pissed off before I could even react and tell him that I prefer deep & virgin snow to give to Pooh what he likes most: Tracking in deep snow.
Next day we saw that the guy really had finished our entire daily loop of 22Km to make our life easier…

Well, today a guy from the neighbourhood rang the bell. He had heard about our litter. Since he has … “quite good contacts” he brought 10kg of really BEST beef. “For your dogs – their mother might need lots of power now”.

Guess what I’ll be chewing on after I’ll have launched this post…;-)

Thanx Andy !!

Inuk GAINED weight !!!

February 19, 2010

Hi folks!

I know this sounds crazy..but: Inuk GAINED weight since giving birth to the bunch of ten last monday! She’s really taking care very well – so still all puppies are fit. NOT ONE is smaller or seems to be weaker than the other ones. Since we have to defend our decision to let her keep all 10 puppies, we somehow have to go it all the way and give her the necessary background: Top nutrition 24/7 and the luxury of a kindergarden under my office desk seem to pay off. Every day we expect to find anyone who is weak… But Inuk really takes good care about them and I’m on my knees once each hour to feed her optionally with chicken and other snacks that “kick” her to eat WHILE the puppies try to suck her dry. Today we checked her weight: She gained +400g since giving birth to this gang! All puppies are growing as hell and are very active. Inuk manages to fill them all until they fall to sleep. Then she comes out, is in a good mood and always willing for a short run in the deep snow outside.
Yes, we really have been working with sleddogs before and know how this “business” works as usual! But – compared to people that have children -
we’ve got one huge advantage: Two more weeks and we simply kick ‘em out for shitting. 8 more weeks and we’re free again after providing a top-start for a quite interesting combination of pedigrees that will hit the trail.

PS: Thanks to all the people that made contact with serious interest in purchasing from this litter! We won’t decide yet who to sell to but appreciate further inquiries at all times. SEK 3500/puppy (vaccinated, chipped, without worms or … HIV). SEK 3000/each with purchase of 2 or more.

I’ll launch pictures later on today and try to get a clip of the litter on Youtube. Keep you informed…

Welcome to our husky-puppy-blog

February 18, 2010

Last monday our Alaskan Husky female “Inuk” gave birth to ten (10 !!!) fit and healthy puppies. Since she decided to to this under the desk I’m working from,  I had to accept and make the best out of it: So,  I launched www.sleddogkennel.com as source for background info, start this blog, I’ll take pictures of the entire litter to post HERE frequently,… to share the chaos that appears while raising 10 sleddogs in my office.  Since this litter was planned we’re prepared to keep one female – but what the hell to do with tot. 10 puppies (of really good pedigree ;-) ????  I hope to find buyers with serious interest and experience with sleddogs that can offer a “good” home for individuals out of this bunch. People that have already made their choice can still follow “their” puppy until it is old enough to leave us.  No puppy will be “delivered” younger than 8 weeks. All of them will be vaccinated, free of worms, well educated and able to go for shopping alone ;-)

Welcome to follow the sick decision to raise a wild bunch under my office – desk !
