Well… compared to Kiruna we made fantastic experiences down here in Ångermanland. Couple of weeks ago we met a Sami on his snowscooter during skijöring. From Kiruna we are used to prepare for war when meeting Sami while we’re out with dogs. Up there some of the Sami use to attack dogteams with their snowmobiles. Even tourists on dog sleds became injured when crazy freaks on snowscooters attacked dog teams… The man we met gave me a sign to stop. So I told T-Pooh to brake down and stopped next to the guy’s scooter. The following smalltalk somehow changed my world…
“Hi man, what a beautiful dog you have. I’m in search for my reindeers – have you seen any tracks?”
“No, I haven’t – And I’m pretty sure that they’re not around here. Otherwise Pooh would have shown any kind of reaction”
“F*ck! Where are they? …Do you go here frequently with ski&dogs ?
“Yeah – every day…”
“That’s so seldom in this area that people really work with their dogs. Where do you usually go ?”
“Around Gräsberget and back down here. But if you have your flock of reindeers here, we could…”
“No, no, no – there’s so lots of space for all of us here – I’m going to to follow your track and break you a trail. Then it will be easier for you from tomorrow..”
He pissed off before I could even react and tell him that I prefer deep & virgin snow to give to Pooh what he likes most: Tracking in deep snow.
Next day we saw that the guy really had finished our entire daily loop of 22Km to make our life easier…
Well, today a guy from the neighbourhood rang the bell. He had heard about our litter. Since he has … “quite good contacts” he brought 10kg of really BEST beef. “For your dogs – their mother might need lots of power now”.
Guess what I’ll be chewing on after I’ll have launched this post…;-)
Thanx Andy !!
